The City of Goodyear has recently made a significant announcement: City Manager Wynette Reed is set to retire on March 6, 2026. After over 39 years of public service and a transformative 14-year stint with the city, Reed is stepping down from a role that significantly impacted Goodyear's trajectory. Under Reed's guidance, Goodyear solidified its spot as the ninth fastest-growing city in the United States. "It has been my deepest honor to serve as city manager for this great city," Reed told the City of Goodyear's official website.
Reed's career in Goodyear started in 2011 when she became the Human Resources director. She quickly climbed the ranks, becoming the deputy city manager by 2013. During her tenure, the city saw a slew of development projects and various initiatives aimed at economic development and sustainable living - from infrastructural advancements to the establishment of a micro transit program. She leaves behind a noteworthy legacy marked by an impressive 95% employee satisfaction score within the organization.
Mayor Joe Pizzillo didn't hold back in praising Reed for her substantial contributions. "Wynette will be truly missed. She has been pivotal in leading our team, and we couldn't have done it without her or the incredible team she has built," he remarked, according to the Goodyear official announcement. The respect for her work is far-reaching, evidenced by her selection as a 2024 Women Achiever of Arizona in the Public Sector by the Arizona Capitol Times due to her dedication to public service.
Looking ahead, the City Council will appoint a subcommittee to oversee the recruitment of Reed's successor. A national search is on the horizon to find a new leader who can carry on the work started by Reed. The city assures that a transition plan is in place to maintain stability during the interim. As Goodyear heads towards a future without one of its pivotal leaders, updates on the search for a new city manager are promised to follow through the city's communication channels.
