Governor Josh Stein is reminding families affected by Hurricane Helene to apply for help through Renew NC's Single-Family Housing Program before the December deadline. The program provides assistance for repairing, rebuilding, or replacing homes, and early recipients like Sherry Logan said, "I am so blessed," according to the North Carolina Office of the Governor.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley said, “It’s powerful to be with our neighbors and see the impact of getting them home again after surviving the hardships of Hurricane Helene,” as families like Howard Gilliam get support. Renew NC uses federal CDBG-DR funds to help low- to moderate-income families in 28 counties, with over 4,000 applications already submitted at various intake and pop-up locations, as reported by the North Carolina Office of the Governor.
Eligible homeowners receive an award letter from Renew NC explaining the recovery project. They can accept or appeal the award before signing a grant agreement and starting repairs, which may include contractor inspections, getting permits, and temporary relocation. To apply or get help, homeowners can visit RenewNC.org, call (888) 791-0207, go to in-person locations, or use the Renew NC app for Android or iOS.
