
Governor Greg Abbott has made a new appointment in the Texas judiciary. In an announcement dated October 30, Abbott named Anna Hord as the judge of the 286th Judicial District Court covering Cochran and Hockley Counties. Hord's tenure on the bench is slated to exist only until December 31, 2026, or until a successor is elected and sworn in.
Hord steps into the role with a background steeped in local legal experience. Armed with a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University's School of Law, she has been serving as the Hockley County Attorney. Her commitment to the community extends beyond the courtroom. She is the secretary of the Salvation Army- Levelland Service Unit and volunteers with several local organizations, including the Sundown Athletic Booster Club and the First Baptist Church in Levelland.
The Office of the Texas Governor has outlined Hord's educational qualifications that have helped prepare her for this position. She holds an Associate of Arts from South Plains College and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas Tech University, in addition to her law degree.
