In Grafton, a former firefighter has been charged after allegedly shooting his wife during a domestic dispute linked to a divorce proceeding. According to CBS58, 53-year-old Guy Paider appeared in court, where his cash bail was set at $3 million.
WISN reported that prosecutors described the shooting as a calculated act. Court documents indicate that the incident occurred after a discussion about divorce turned violent. Paider allegedly retrieved a gun and shot his wife, Shirley Aliaga Paider, multiple times while their 12-year-old daughter called 911.
When law enforcement arrived, Paider fired at officers before being taken into custody. His wife was identified through an online fundraiser confirming her recovery progress. Records show she had filed for divorce earlier that same day, as per FOX 6 Now.
Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Steven Cain called the case extremely serious and noted the deliberate nature of the conduct. Paider was evaluated at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where no mental health issues were found. He remains in custody and is prohibited from contacting his wife or children.
The prosecution requested a $4 million bond due to Paider’s assets, while the defense argued for a lower amount, citing his prior record and community service. The judge set the bond at $3 million to ensure public safety and compliance with court proceedings.
