On Tuesday morning in Groveton, Texas, a woman was seriously injured in an explosion at her senior apartment. The explosion happened when she tried to light a cigarette while on oxygen. The Trinity County Sheriff, Woody A. Wallace, said a 911 call was received around 4 a.m., according to KHOU.
First responders, including deputies, the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department, and EMS, went to the Senior Apartments. The injured woman was taken to the Groveton ISD football field to be airlifted to a hospital. Her condition has not been released.
Sheriff Wallace warned that "Smoking while using oxygen is extremely dangerous." He said, "Over the years, we have responded to several incidents involving people smoking while on oxygen, and unfortunately, these situations almost always end badly," and reminded families to keep cigarettes and open flames away from oxygen equipment, as reported by Click2Houston.
