Installed at the Bel Air South Parkway and Blue Spruce Drive intersection, the single-lane traffic solution employs an innovative design of recycled materials. According to Fox Baltimore, officials have stated that this modern approach has saved the county around $1.5 million compared to traditional concrete construction.
County Executive Bob Cassilly applauded the expedited efforts in a statement reported by WMAR-2 News, expressing gratification toward the community for their patience and commending the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Engineering team, along with DPW crews, "for working so quickly to complete this project ahead of the busy holiday season." The endeavor led to traffic safety improvements and environmental innovation, as it reused approximately 370,000 milk jugs to form the sustainable structure of the roundabout.
The roads surrounding the new roundabout were reopened last Wednesday, much to the relief of local commuters. The county had initially anticipated a full week of work starting October 20, but achieved completion in just five days, as noted by Fox Baltimore.
