A 43-year-old woman, Coleen Kuamo`o also known under the alias Malama Kuamo`o, who was wanted in Hawaii on charges of sexually assaulting a child, has been apprehended in Worcester, Massachusetts. The U.S. Marshals detailed the charges against Kuamo`o as one count of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of third-degree sexual assault, and one count related to the use of a computer in the commission of a crime, as reported by NBC Boston.
Upon receiving information from the Maui Police and Hawaii’s fugitive task force that the suspect might be in the Bay State, the Massachusetts fugitive task force conducted an operation in Worcester where they located and arrested Kuamo`o last Thursday—her swift apprehension signifying law enforcement's dedication to pursuing justice across state lines. According to NBC Boston, the arrest warrant was issued on July 26, before officials were tipped off to her possible presence in Massachusetts, setting the gears in motion for her eventual capture.
"Anyone who thinks they can flee across the country to avoid facing justice is mistaken," Acting U.S. Marshal Kevin W. Neal stated, in an announcement emphasized by The Boston Herald, reinforcing the message that the evasion of law enforcement is a feat not easily achieved. Kuamo`o now faces charges as a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts and awaits arraignment, after which she will confront extradition proceedings to return to Hawaii.
