Boston is getting a sunny reset Friday, with early temperatures in the mid-60s, lower humidity and an afternoon high near 77 degrees. The calm stretch should last through much of Saturday before showers, thunderstorms and possibly heavy rain move in late Saturday night and Sunday.
A new National Weather Service Boston/Norton forecast said there were no significant changes to the forecast compared with Thursday's outlook, putting Sunday's chance of precipitation at 80% and flagging the potential for brief torrential downpours.
Clear Friday And Saturday
Friday will stay sunny with northwest winds around 12 mph, while temperatures ease to about 58 degrees under clear skies overnight. Saturday should be another bright, comfortable day, reaching near 73 degrees with southerly winds of 6 to 12 knots and sea breezes along much of the coast.
The weather turns late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with showers, patchy fog, more showers and a few thunderstorms becoming likely. Some storms could produce heavy rain, making Sunday morning a less appealing time for outdoor plans than the first half of the weekend.
Sunday Could Turn Wet And Muggy
Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy, foggy in spots and unsettled, with an afternoon high near 73 degrees. The National Weather Service puts the chance of rain at 80% and says thunderstorms are possible, although the exact placement of the heaviest rain remains uncertain.
Many locations could pick up roughly one-tenth to one-half inch of rain, but forecasters say a narrow band could produce much higher totals in a short period. The chance of localized flash flooding is considered low, with the main concern near and south of the Interstate 90 corridor; no watches, warnings or advisories are posted for Boston.
Dry Weather Returns Monday
Sunday night brings only a slight chance of leftover showers before partly cloudy skies settle in. Monday and Tuesday look mostly sunny and seasonable, with highs near 73 and 69 degrees, while a brief return to summerlike warmth could push Wednesday's high near 80.
