On Sunday in Healdsburg, a high-speed chase unfolded as police officers attempted to pull over a speeding white Lexus on Highway 101. The Healdsburg Police Department reported that the pursuit began around 1:36 AM, when the vehicle abruptly sped off into the night instead of complying, forcing the officers to engage in a chase that ultimately was called off to ensure public safety. The culprit behind the wheel, it would turn out, was a 17-year-old juvenile.
According to the Healdsburg Police Department, the pursuit veered off into rural roads where the Lexus clocked speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour. In their commitment to not compromise the public's safety, officers chose to terminate the chase. Nonetheless, diligent investigation efforts allowed them to eventually track down both the suspect and the vehicle involved in the incident.
Yesterday, officers located the white Lexus in Cloverdale, and inside, they found the underage suspect engaging in yet another illegal activity, smoking marijuana. The subsequent interaction led the juvenile to attempt to walk away before officers detained them without further incident. The HDP’s investigation confirmed that this was the same individual who had been driving recklessly just days before.
After the vehicle was impounded for 30 days by a court-issued warrant, the young suspect faced the consequences of their actions, being charged with 2800.2 CVC, Reckless Evasion. With the suspect booked into Juvenile Hall, a clear message was sent that such perilous actions will surely be met with serious repercussions.
