Hickory residents can expect a temporary change to their usual route as First Street NW will be closed for a short period. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. today, the section of the road between Main Avenue NW and First Avenue NW will be closed to traffic. The closure is due to interior renovations at the building formerly occupied by Randolph’s Billiards, now located at 16 Second Street NW. The parking deck at 1 North Center Street will remain open and accessible to the public.
According to the city’s announcement, a detour has been established to help drivers navigate around the construction zone. City officials advise drivers to "slow down and exercise caution when traveling through this area so crews can return home safely each night." Motorists are encouraged to follow the marked detour routes while the closure is in effect.
Construction is underway on the former billiard hall, and First Street NW is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
