Hickory, North Carolina, is preparing to introduce a new Veterans Memorial as the Hickory Elks Lodge moves toward completing the project. Conducted in partnership with the City of Hickory, the memorial is designed to acknowledge service members from all six branches of the United States military, according to the city’s official announcement.
The memorial includes black granite pedestals representing each branch of the U.S. military, engraved with gold-highlighted seals, along with a central pedestal and benches for reflection. It is located in front of the Elks Lodge on Main Avenue NW. According to a statement from the City of Hickory, Hickory Elks President Frank O’Keefe said the memorial will serve as a space for veterans, their families, and community members to reflect on military service. Col. Tim Herndon, USMC (Ret.), chairman of the Elks’ board, stated that the project was completed through coordination with city officials, including Mayor Guess and Councilwoman Jill Patton. The memorial is located along the City Walk and is intended as a place for residents and visitors to acknowledge military service.
A dedication ceremony for the memorial is scheduled for Veterans Day, November 11, at 5 p.m., and is expected to include attendees from Hickory and nearby areas.
