After three decades of dedicated service to the community, Captain Bill Denton is closing the chapter on his career with the Hickory Fire Department. Captain Denton, whose tenure began on November 11, 1996, steadily ascended through the ranks starting as a firefighter and moving onto roles such as Firefighter II, Senior Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, eventually earning the title of Captain in March 2009. Spending his concluding 7 years serving on Engine 7, Denton is recognized for his unwavering commitment to firefighting and emergency response.

In a career marked by continuous learning and skill development, Denton achieved a plethora of certifications. According to the Hickory Fire Department's announcement, these include Level II Firefighter and Hazardous Materials (operations level) through the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission, and an EMT-D through the Office of Emergency Medical Services. His instructional contributions are notable as well, having taught both the Hickory Fire Department Recruit Class of 2013 and Firefighter I and II certification classes at St. Stephens Fire Department. Over his tenure, Denton had the unique opportunity to serve under four different fire chiefs – each offering their own brand of leadership and guidance.

His accolades include receiving the Eagle Scout Award in 1985, which speaks to his long-standing dedication to civic service and leadership. As he steps away from his profession, Denton looks forward to dedicating more time to his family, his faith as a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church MS, and pursuing his woodworking hobby.

Together with his wife Carol and son Nathan, Denton is set to embark on a new journey in retirement.
