Over the past weekend, a high-speed chase unraveled in the Bonney Lake area when deputies from the foothills detachment spotted a stolen box truck, around 12:45 am on October 12, traveling eastbound on 120th St E from 198th Ave E. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blotter, an attempted traffic stop escalated into a pursuit that ended with several precision immobilization technique, or PIT, maneuvers successfully deployed to halt the vehicle.

The aftermath of the chase saw the truck inoperable and the two male suspects unable to extricate themselves from the vehicle, necessitating assistance from the fire department; however, a developing situation required deputies to act swiftly as smoke began emanating from the truck, deputies did not hesitate they began breaking the front windshield to create an escape route for the suspects.

Both suspects, subsequently, were able to crawl through the opening made by the officers, whereupon they were removed from the vicinity of the smoldering vehicle and taken into custody at a safe distance. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reports that the suspects received immediate medical care on scene and were later transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries incurred during the incident.

The driver, a 42-year-old male, after hospital evaluation was booked into the Pierce County Jail facing charges including possession of stolen property, eluding, and assault on police officers, the passenger, a 38-year-old male, was released from the hospital to obtain further medical care, and will face charges pertaining to his existing warrants, the box truck, now a part of the trove of evidence, was towed from the scene.
