Chaos erupted on Interstate 4 as a high-speed chase ensued last night, leading to a crash in Osceola County that left traffic in disarray. The Florida Highway Patrol reported to WFTV that they had attempted to pull over a Nissan Sentra before it fled, initiating the pursuit.
The chase reached speeds up to 100 mph, according to the ClickOrlando report. Multiple vehicles were struck as the FHP attempted to safely bring the chase to a close, ultimately resulting in the Nissan Sentra crashing into the rear of a pickup truck near Champions Gate. Despite the efforts to quickly apprehend all involved, two males managed to escape from the vehicle and remain at large.
One person, identified as Jonathan Desroches, was arrested at the scene. FHP discovered a handgun with ammunition and a bag containing a white crystal-type substance in the car, raising the stakes of the highway chase. It was also found that the vehicle bore a temporary tag that did not match its identification number. Desroches is now facing several charges, including possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and aggravated fleeing with injury or damage.
The incident led to significant traffic backups with three lanes and the exit off-ramp closed, though they were later reopened. The ripple effects of the incident were felt by travelers well into the evening. Meanwhile, emergency services had to treat several people for injuries at the scene, with at least two individuals being transported to an area hospital for neck and back injuries related to the event. The FHP diligently searched for the two suspects who had fled, employing K-9 units and aviation support, but was unable to locate them immediately.
As for Desroches, he was taken to Osceola County Jail while the investigation continues.
