
A high-speed chase on Interstate 40 in Wake County led to a two-car collision near Lake Wheeler Road, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office reported. The suspect, driving at a reckless pace was observed by deputies east of Gorman Street on Thursday afternoon. Despite efforts to halt the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Jaquan Lanautis Page, refused to stop, prompting a chase that ended when Page's vehicle struck another on Lake Wheeler Road, CBS17 reported.
According to The Wake Weekly, Page was taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a result of the crash. Fortunately, no one else sustained injuries in the incident.
The Lake Wheeler Road exit was temporarily closed in the aftermath, but traffic resumed normal flow roughly 20 minutes later, WRAL News conveyed.
Page now faces multiple charges following the event, including felony fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, speeding and reckless driving with wanton disregard. The Wake County Court has scheduled Page for a first appearance on Friday afternoon, with a $25,000 secured bond set, according to court records. This was further detailed by CBS17.
The Sheriff's Office has not concluded its investigation as of yet, and additional charges might be pending. Officials have so far not provided further details on what initiated the chase, or the state of the uninvolved vehicle hit by Page. All the reports stress, that no one else besides Page sustained injuries in the ordeal.
