Hillsborough County, in partnership with the Children's Home Network, is set to unveil major upgrades to facilities that aid in the nurturing and rehabilitation of foster children. The renovations, focused on Kids Village—a residential healing program—will be showcased in a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Oct. 22, as reported by Hillsborough County officials. These improvements, meant to significantly enhance the quality of life and care for children aged 6 to 17, include several essential updates.
With a sizeable $688,000 investment from community development funds, the updates are projected to practically address the needs of up to 54 children who have suffered from abuse and neglect. According to officials, enhancements cover new air conditioning in the gymnasium, a new roof, improved lighting, bathroom renovations, brand new windows, and the addition of an outdoor pavilion. These upgrades aim to not only provide basic comfort but also to foster a healing environment that may help children better adjust and recover from their traumatic experiences.
The Children's Home Network, which has been serving the community since its inception in 1892 as the Children's Home of Tampa, now operates with the mandate to reach nearly 7,000 children and adults each year through comprehensive child welfare, behavioral health, and social service programs. This network is the backbone of several child-centric initiatives across Central Florida, headquartered in Tampa, but its influence and services extend well beyond its main location.
