As temperatures drop, the Hillsborough County Extension Service will offer several sustainability classes in November. According to an official announcement, the sessions will include topics such as tree care, composting, and financial planning.

As per Hillsborough County, the "So You Want to Be an Arborist?" course will take place from Nov. 4 to 6, offering three days of training focused on the science and techniques of tree care, as well as potential career opportunities in the field. Participants can also attend the "Afternoon Arborist" webinar on Nov. 4, which will discuss the development of an Urban Tree Management Plan for maintaining city green spaces. In addition, the "Edible Landscaping" class, scheduled for Nov. 22, will teach participants how to grow their own food within their home landscapes.

Conservationists and environmental enthusiasts can take part in Water Conservation Workshops on Saturday. The session will provide hands-on training in composting, microirrigation, and rainwater harvesting. Participants will also receive items such as compost bins, irrigation kits, and rain barrels to support conservation practices at home.

The schedule also includes programs focused on financial well-being, with free online classes on money management offered throughout November. The county’s official announcement states that these include “Choosing Financial Planners” on Nov. 19, which covers the qualifications and pay structures of professionals in the field, and the self-paced “Financial Building Blocks” course, which reviews the basics of budgeting, saving, and credit.

For those looking for personalized financial guidance, one-on-one appointments are available by request throughout November. In addition, the Hillsborough County Extension Service and the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) are offering a variety of educational classes. More information on these and other courses is available on the Local Events Calendar or by calling (813) 744-5519.
