The 10th annual Hiking Spree in Hillsborough County is scheduled to begin this Saturday, at Lettuce Lake Park. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include guided hikes, outdoor activities, food trucks, and nature-themed crafts, according to Hillsborough County.
The Hiking Spree is free to participate in, with a $2 per vehicle park entrance fee. Participants can earn a limited-edition patch, medallion, or pet bandana by completing eight of the 23 designated trails, one of which can be chosen by the participant. The event runs through March 31, 2026, and is intended to encourage physical activity and engagement with the county’s natural areas.
Hillsborough County offers a variety of trails, from easy walks to more challenging hikes. According to the county’s announcement, “The trails are designed to offer something for residents of any age or ability.” Several trails are accessible to wheelchair users and others with specific accessibility needs.
The Hiking Spree is scheduled to align with cooler weather and the peak bird-watching season. Dog owners are permitted to bring their pets on most trails. Participants can share their experiences using the hashtag #TakeAHikeHC.
