An unforeseen act of violence has shattered the trust inherent in the caretaker relationship in a Massapequa home this week, as a woman has been accused of stabbing an elderly woman under her care. According to ABC 7 NY, 23-year-old Amanda Fraser is now facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing 85-year-old Wendy Wilson while she slept, then attempting to ram her vehicle into Wilson's residence.
Wilson's son, Kery Kilgannon, has reportedly shared security footage of the incident, detailing the grim sequence where the home health aide aggregated herself into the bed with the elderly woman before the attack. In a chaotic turn of events, the caregiver is said to have crashed in the driveway while trying to flee, prior to her capture by authorities. Fraser's arraignment is pending her medical condition and is to proceed when she is declared medically fit.
Concurrently, a report by CBS News New York paints a somewhat conflicting picture. The victim here is identified as 84 years old and was discovered by another home health aide arriving for her morning shift. The aide found the distressing scene of blood and a knife on the floor, with the elderly victim suffering from stab wounds to her chest. After being taken to a local hospital, Wilson underwent surgery and is expected to pull through.
Contributing to the narrative, Massapequa High School and Birch Lane Elementary School were, quote, "placed under a secure lockdown for about 90 minutes as a precaution," following the incident. Video evidence has played a pivotal role in piecing together the details of the crime, allowing police to quickly apprehend the suspected assailant. Officers spent the day meticulously collecting evidence, interviewing neighbors, and gathering surveillance footage in hopes of ascertaining a motive behind the violent act, as per CBS News New York.
