After a prolonged and anguishing wait of two years, families breathed a sigh of relief as hostages previously held in Gaza were finally released. Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Co-Chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus, expressed gratitude and hope in the wake of this event. "It has been two long years since these hostages were ripped away from their families in the midst of the brutal Hamas terror attack," Wagner said in a statement.
Wagner acknowledged the emotional toll of the ordeal, underpinning the devastation that comes when one's loved ones are held captive, and the uncertainty that clouds over the days as they transform into years. She lamented, "That’s two years of not knowing when, or if, they would ever see their loved ones again." With the hostages' return, a momentous amount of emotional anguish has ostensibly been alleviated for the affected families.
Amid celebrating the hostages' homecoming, Wagner did not overlook the tragedy of those who perished. "My heart goes out to the families of the hostages who were killed in captivity in the furtherance of Hamas’s depraved anti-Semitic ideology," she stated, marking a somber note in the midst of the otherwise hopeful development.
Looking ahead, Wagner struck a chord of optimism regarding the geopolitics of the region, hopeful that this turn of events might pave the way to a less volatile future. "I’m hopeful today marks a turning point towards a more peaceful, just, and prosperous Middle East," she remarked. She extended gratitude to former President Trump and his administration, attributing the success of the release to their diplomatic efforts, "Thank you to President Trump and his Administration for their strength and unparalleled diplomacy that made this miraculous day a reality," Wagner told the press.
