Houston is expecting a weekend with showers and possible thunderstorms. The National Weather Service forecasts a 40% chance of rain today, with showers and thunderstorms possible after 1 p.m. Temperatures are expected near 84°F, with southeast winds up to 25 mph.
Houston, after more than a month of dry weather, will see showers increasing into storms by Saturday as a low-pressure system moves in. Tonight, there is a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a quarter to half an inch of rain possible. On Saturday, rain is expected at 100% with 1 to 2 inches possible. Click2Houston says, "if some areas get too much rain too quickly, that’s a good recipe for possible street flooding in some areas."
Despite recent rain, fire risks remain high, and burn bans are in effect in several counties. Click2Houston warns that "as fires can flare up fast," residents should avoid unattended fires and not drive or park over tall grass. After the weekend’s rain, Houston will have mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures, with a cold front midweek bringing highs near 70°F and lows in the 50s.
