An apartment fire broke out in the Mid West area last Saturday, leaving residents of a multi-unit building at 6370 Windswept Ln. coping with the aftermath. According to a report published by the Houston Fire Department, the blaze, which started at 10:24 p.m., resulted in no human casualties, though a dog was tragically found deceased.
The fast-acting Houston Fire Department (HFD) crews arrived to find the fire ravaging through both the first- and second-floor apartments. Quickly, they launched a suppression campaign while also prioritizing the search and safety of the building's inhabitants. The second floor was evacuated by firefighters coming from many stations, including the deceased dog that was found on the first floor.
HFD Arson investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, with the source being a kitchen mishap that swiftly grew out of control. Their findings were critical in establishing precautions for future fire safety and prevention in local residences. The involvement of the American Red Cross was also noted, as they were called upon to assist the displaced individuals dealing with the disaster's fallout.
In response to the emergency, a significant number of personnel were mobilized. 58 responders, belonging to a variety of units such as Stations 51, 75, 28, and many others, including Rescue 10 and Rehab 8, made it to the scene, as stated by the Houston Fire Department.
