Early this morning, in northeast Houston, a man was fatally shot by police after allegedly firing an "AK-47-style rifle" in a chaotic display within his backyard. FOX 26 Houston reports that officers arrived at the 5800 block of Hartwick Road around 8 a.m., responding to a call regarding gunshots.
At the scene, the now-deceased suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was accused of discharging the high-powered weapon in what appeared to be a reckless manner, according to the Houston Police Department. Firing recklessly in multiple directions before the police officers arrived, the suspect refused to comply with orders to cease his dangerous activity, as stated by KHOU 11.
In consequence, two officers on the scene responded with gunfire, striking the man. This led to his subsequent death. Amidst the unfolding events, no officers were reported injured. As it stands, the Houston Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident to reveal the circumstances leading to the officers' use of lethal force.
