Houston police shot an armed suspect on Monday morning after responding to a reported burglary at an apartment complex on 2400 South Loop West. The suspect, identified as Darwish Wilson, is now charged with arson and burglary, according to the City of Houston.
Security personnel said Wilson barricaded himself inside a vacant unit and “The suspect refused to exit and began setting items on fire inside the apartment,” per the report. When officers said he pointed a weapon at them through a window, five HPD officers opened fire and struck him, as reported by the City of Houston.
Wilson dropped his weapon after the shooting and was taken into custody. He received medical aid at the scene and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Investigators found a replica handgun and evidence of a burglary and arson inside the apartment. The case is under review by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The officers involved had been assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division between May 2018 and October 2025, as stated by the City of Houston.
