Last Thursday night, an HPD officer was involved in a shooting incident at an apartment complex located at 6555 Harbor Town Drive, which has now led to the arrest and charging of 17-year-old John Cesar Silva. According to a news release from the City of Houston, Silva is facing charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and a family member.
John Cesar Silva, after being taken into custody when he surrendered post shooting, has sustained an injury to his right hand. Officer C. Santana, the officer who discharged his weapon during the altercation, was not injured. Santana, an officer since May 2017 with the Midwest Patrol Division, followed procedures responding to the violent scenario. The suspect, still inside the apartment, fired his gun through the door when officers announced themselves, leading to the return fire by Officer Santana.
HPD patrol officers initially arrived responding to reports of a shooting in progress. A wounded female was found outside, who identified the shooter as her son and indicated her daughters were still inside the apartment with him. "The male suspect eventually came out and surrendered and was taken into custody," as reported by the City of Houston. Subsequent charges were filed against Silva after consultation with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
