A recent early morning altercation in Spring Hill has led to an ongoing investigation after one man was injured in a shootout. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported to the incident which occurred in the 10000 block of Fordham Street, according to WTSP.

Multiple calls were made around 6 a.m. today about the sound of 15-20 gunshots and reports of a person lying in a front yard. Sheriff Al Nienhuis clarified that the body turned out to be a Halloween decoration. The real incident involved a resident who was approached by a neighbor in his front yard. Not recognizing the individual at first glance, the homeowner took his firearm outside for safety, stated Sheriff Nienhuis in a statement obtained by WFLA.

FOX 13 News indicated deeper into the sequence of events that the neighbor had requested to hang out. However, the homeowner responded by telling him to 'get out of here' and as he turned to re-enter his home, was met with gunfire from the individual in question. A shootout ensued on Fordham Street where fortunately, only the instigating neighbor got shot in the shoulder and no life-threatening injuries were sustained.

The condition of the injured man was elaborated upon in WFLA, with Sheriff Nienhuis confirming, "Fortunately, that individual did arm themselves because they didn’t know who it was, turned around and started returning fire, kind of a shootout ensued on Fordham Street." It is still unclear if any charges will be brought forward as the incident is under investigation.
