Earlier that day, the Sheriff's Office had issued a call for assistance to the locals, describing Christopher Hazel as 5’10” tall, about 200 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was reported to have been seen last, leaving his home on Hickory Highway in Statesville around 4:45 p.m. dressed in all black clothing and a blue ball cap, the one he wore in the photo provided to aid in recognition efforts. In their social media plea, authorities urged anyone with knowledge of Christopher's whereabouts to reach out and contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office or dial 911.
The relief among the community was palpable as word spread that Christopher was out of harm's way.
