Clarksburg and West Sacramento residents are advised to plan their October 19 errands early, as the 2025 IRONMAN California will bring extensive road closures and detours. Nearly 3,000 triathletes are set to compete in the event, with the bicycling portion passing through Clarksburg and parts of Yolo County. Drivers are encouraged to review alternate routes and expect delays throughout the day.

Starting bright and early around 7:00 a.m. and expected to pedal on until the evening shadows settle at 6:00 p.m., these athletes are set to do a double circuit which will flow along South River Road, Babel Slough Road, and onto State Route 84 (Jefferson Boulevard), eventually leading into Solano County. "We are excited to once again welcome IRONMAN athletes and visitors to Yolo County," Oscar Villegas, Yolo County District 1 Supervisor, told Yolo County News. He highlighted the event's potential for positive attention and economic activity, while also acknowledging the need for local residents' patience considering the day-long traffic reshuffle.

For those not participating in IRONMAN but planning to travel through nearby neighborhoods, be prepared for road closures and traffic control at multiple intersections. Key affected areas include South River Road between Gregory Avenue and Babel Slough Road, Babel Slough Road to State Route 84, and portions of Route 84 between Babel Slough Road and Miner Slough Bridge. Additionally, about two miles of Ryer Avenue east of Miner Slough Bridge will also be part of the race course.

Officials are advising motorists to steer clear of race course areas to avoid significant delays on Sunday. State Route 84, in particular, will be closed to through traffic and should not be used to access West Sacramento. Those who must travel in that direction are advised to use the Freeport Bridge and connect to the Interstate 5 corridor heading north. While Miner Slough Bridge will be reserved exclusively for emergency vehicles during the event, drivers can opt for the Caltrans Ferry in Walnut Grove, provided operations there remain unaffected, as detailed by the Yolo County News.

Yolo County officials have prepared contingency measures in case the Walnut Grove ferry experiences disruptions during the race. Residents can rest assured that, if necessary, access across Miner Slough Bridge will be permitted to prevent anyone from being stranded. The full bike course map is available on the IRONMAN website, where residents can plan alternate routes.
