The Arlington community is in mourning after the tragic loss of 13-year-old Genesis Webber, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Arlington Road North late Tuesday night. According to Action News Jax, Genesis was walking on the shoulder of the road when a vehicle jumped the curb, striking her and leaving the scene without stopping to render aid. The crash occurred around 9:15 PM, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
Family and friends remember Genesis fondly, highlighting how her presence brightened their lives. "Everybody loved her. She lit up a room. She had gray eyes. She was beautiful. She looked like a baby doll," her mother heartbreakingly recounted in an interview with First Coast News. The Jacksonville community has begun to unite to both grieve and to call for justice, hoping to find and hold accountable the person responsible for this crime.
The loss extends deeply into the day-to-day experiences of Genesis's family. "I just liked being in her presence...she’d come in my room every morning and spray on my perfume or use my hair products so I would just be laying there looking at her doing her hair or doing her edges," Genesis's sister, Shardae Webber, shared with News4Jax. These small, cherished moments paint a picture of the profound impact Genesis had on her family. Her two siblings, whom she loved dearly, are among those mourning.
Detectives are actively to working to gather evidence and have called on the public to assist in the investigation. Surveillance footage is currently being reviewed, and as of yet, no description of the involved vehicle has been released. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and can contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
