A tragic hit-and-run incident has left the Jacksonville community mourning the loss of a young teenager. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), 13-year-old Genesis Webber was fatally struck on Arlington Road North. The accident, which occurred during an unexpected veering of a truck off the roadway, resulted in the young girl's death at the scene. Surveillance footage captured the truck as it careened off the road, hit Genesis on the sidewalk, and then plowed through a chain-link fence before driving away.
JSO's Traffic Homicide Unit detectives initiated a full-scale investigation that led to the quick identification of the suspect, 54-year-old Andre Myers. In a display of interdepartmental cooperation, the Traffic Homicide Unit worked alongside the Crime Analysis Unit and the Real Time Crime Center to piece together Myers's movements throughout the day. In what proved to be a crucial piece of evidence, detectives discovered that Myers was out on bond for felony charges and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the incident.
The collaboration extended further with the involvement of the JSO's Department of Corrections, who utilized Myers's ankle monitor data to rebuild his whereabouts and establish locations he frequently visited. This data, combined with the collected evidence, steered law enforcement directly to the suspect.
In the progress of the case, on the late night of Wednesday, October 1, officers from District 2 came upon Myers asleep in his truck. He was subsequently arrested and is currently detained at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility. For those looking to gather more information on this case, the arrest report and booking photo of Myers can be found on the JSO's Public Records Portal's Published Media Requests page, referencing "M484218" in the Reference No. section.
