In a united front against domestic violence, Jacksonville's law enforcement and public service entities have banded together, with representatives from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, City of Jacksonville, the State Attorney's Office, Clerk of Courts, and regional criminal justice agencies joining forces with executives from local shelters to amplify the message of support and awareness; this collaboration was showcased at a news conference held on Monday, which marked the eve of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The assembled participants in this initiative are reaching out to the community to educate on the four main types of abuse—notably physical, emotional, sexual, and financial—and to spread the word on available resources for those in need; this was highlighted with the call for individuals in abusive relationships or those who know someone affected by such to not hesitate in seeking help by contacting 9-1-1 via call or text for immediate assistance.
For additional support, Jacksonville's Hubbard House offers trained staff who are ready to listen and guide victims to safety. They can be contacted at 904-354-1114 or by text at 904-210-3698, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office website.
