Investigators are also trying to determine whether the West 17th Street shooting is connected to a separate shooting police responded to on West 25th Street, per police. Police have said they believe the West 17th Street shooting was an isolated incident and have not indicated the public faces any ongoing risk, according to police.
West 17th Street sits in Jacksonville's Mid-Westside, a corridor that has seen fatal gun violence before. The Police Athletic League of Jacksonville, known as JaxPAL, partners directly with the sheriff's office to run youth athletic, academic, and mentorship programs aimed at reducing juvenile crime and building trust in neighborhoods like the Mid-Westside.
What Florida Law Says About Homicide Charges
