A Jonesville man has been cited for violating Louisiana’s hunting regulations after reportedly exceeding the legal squirrel hunting limit. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), 36-year-old Joshua Cross harvested 19 squirrels in the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area on Saturday last week, surpassing the daily limit of eight.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents began investigating after receiving a tip about a possible violation. Following their inquiry, Cross admitted on Sunday to taking more squirrels than permitted. The LDWF stated that penalties for exceeding the hunting limit include fines between $250 and $500, possible jail time of up to 90 days, and civil restitution valued at $386 for the squirrels.

The investigation was conducted by Sgt. Cole Cupit, Senior Agent Nicholas Ortego, Agent Andrew Lemoine, and Agent Logan Laffoon. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries emphasized the importance of adhering to established hunting limits to ensure proper wildlife management.
