Residents of Kaua'i are gearing up to raise awareness about fire safety during the upcoming Fire Prevention Week. According to a recent announcement, the Kaua'i Fire Department, in partnership with the Kaua'i Philippine Cultural Center, is set to host the 2025 Fire Prevention Week's kick-off event on October 4. This event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the cultural center, according to the County of Kaua'i.

The focus of the kick-off is to share not only the community risk reduction programs but also KFD's public education curriculum. "This event is a valuable opportunity to bring our partners and community together to focus on preventing both home fires and dangerous wildfires," Fire Chief Michael Gibson was quoted in the County of Kaua'i press release. It aims to encourage family conversations that should start at home and extend to the various aspects of safety and preventative measures. Interactive and educational, the event promises a no-cost opportunity for families to learn and practice fire safety firsthand.

Agencies such as the Kaua'i Emergency Management Agency, Kaua‘i Police Department, Firewise Hawai‘i, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife will also partake with informational booths. Attractions will include fire extinguisher training, CPR demonstrations to safely perform, personal wildland fire education, and a fall prevention program for the island's elderly residents, known as kūpuna. KFD Prevention Captain Kaeo Kinoshita encourages community members who have questions to reach out at 808-241-1982 or via email at [email protected], as detailed by the County of Kaua'i.
