Hey hoops fans, it's time to get your little ballers prepped and ready to hit the court. Kaua‘i's Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that registration for the 2026 Mini Hoopster and Junior Hoopster Basketball Leagues is officially set to open. Mark your calendars, the event takes place on October 22 and 23, available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parents can sign up their kindergarteners and first graders for the Mini Hoopster League, and those with kids in second and third grade can register for the Junior Hoopster League. This is a no-cost program, making it an excellent opportunity for your kids to shoot some hoops without burning a hole in your wallet.
For those looking to register in person, it's a first-come, first-served scenario – you know the drill. Head over to one of the neighborhood centers: Līhu'e, Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, or Waimea. Each center has its own contact number, but if you're more of a digital person, the registration form is just a click away online. Once filled, simply email it to [email protected] and consider your little one in the game. But, there's a catch, so get in there quick, as spots usually fill up faster than a half-court break.
There's plenty of basketball action ahead as the season kicks off in January. All games are set to unfold in the Kalāheo Neighborhood Center gym on Saturdays, with dates lined up like ducks in a row: Jan. 3, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, and Jan. 31. It's a perfect chance for your kids to dribble, pass, and shoot through the winter blues.
The local department seems to have everything covered, and if you're in need of an auxiliary aid/service or have another requirement due to a disability, reach out to Andra Ota directly. In fact, doing so ahead of time will allow them to better meet your needs. It's all part of their mission to ensure everyone has a chance to participate. According to the official County of Kauai press release, alternate formats of the notice are available upon request, ensuring accessibility for everyone.
