Heads up, Kauai residents and visitors: prepare for some traffic slowdowns on Po‘ipū Road starting mid-October. The Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC have announced that there will be intermittent lane closures starting from October 14 until further notice. This will affect the area from Kōloa Road to the Po‘ipū Roundabout and further to the Ala Kinoiki intersection up to Keleka Road.
According to County of Kauai officials, the closures are scheduled to occur Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. These measures are part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project aimed at enhancing utilities and rehabilitating the roadway.
For those concerned about access to properties, the county assures that although there may be temporary blockages to driveways on Poʻipū Road, long-term access will not be compromised. County of Kauai advises that "while brief delays may occur, please be assured that long-term access to and from properties will be maintained."
Commuters should prepare for detours, plan for extra travel time, and take heed of traffic signs and flaggers while navigating the area. Drivers should expect, and be mindful of lane and road closure delays, especially during the active work hours. The county expresses thanks to the public for their patience and understanding during the disruptions.
