The consequences of a tragic crash in Las Vegas have reached a legal resolution this week. Nikki Serrat has been sentenced to a prison term of 24 to 60 years for a fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of two children, Dante Lewis, 11, and Taliyah Lewis, 6. The collision occurred in November last year near the intersection of Flamingo and Pecos. According to FOX5 Las Vegas, in addition to her prison sentence, Serrat has been ordered to pay nearly $275,000 in restitution.
During the incident, Serrat was apparently fleeing from a traffic stop when she crashed into a family's SUV, resulting in the fatalities and injuring two other children and their mother. Serrat, who was on probation at the time of the crash, fled the scene on foot, but authorities apprehended her shortly after. Details from the arrest report also indicate Serrat's attempt to evade the police directly led to the catastrophic event, as reported by News 3 LV.
Following an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Serrat was taken into custody on November 8, 2024. She admitted guilt to three counts of duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death or personal injury.
