Lawton residents can soon celebrate the holiday season with the return of Holiday in the Park, beginning November 22. The City of Lawton municipal announcement highlighted a full slate of activities including the Frost Your Fanny 5K and the Holiday Parade, with a unique "Island of Misplaced Toys" theme. Festive functions will extend through December 31 at Elmer Thomas Park, keeping the community’s spirits alive well into the winter months.
Community engagement is a cornerstone of the event, with local volunteers sought to help set up displays. According to the City of Lawton official announcement, volunteer shifts are available from October 25–26, November 1–2, November 8–9, and November 15–16 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Interested parties can sign up via a provided Google Form link. Additional volunteer opportunities involve assisting with the day-to-day operations of Holiday in the Park and aiding in post-season disassembly.
The Frost Your Fanny 5K invites runners of all ages to compete on the opening day. With registration available both online and on location, participants can look forward to a commemorative T-shirt and medal. Entry fees are set at $25 for those 13 and under and $30 for individuals 14 and over, with sign-up details accessible at a specified JotForm URL, as stated by the City of Lawton.
On the parade front, local schools, businesses, associations, and political candidates are welcomed to partake in the festivities with float entries. In line with the parade's toy-centric theme, creativity is encouraged. An entry fee structure has been laid out, distinguishing business entries at $30, not-for-profit entries at $20, and political candidate entries at $100. Pertinent rules and guidelines for float entries can be found on an another JotForm link, as reported by the City of Lawton.
The Holiday in the Park Committee is looking for sponsors to help support this year’s celebration. Donations from businesses, groups, and individuals will help pay for lights and family-friendly activities, keeping the event free for everyone. Sponsorship forms are available on the City of Lawton website, with options to submit them online or send checks by mail.
