A jury has found Lejon Mabon guilty of attempted murder stemming from a 2021 home invasion robbery in which he and an accomplice broke into a residence, attacked the sleeping occupants, and shot the homeowner, who survived. According to a press release from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, Mabon was also found to have been armed during the crime and to have a history of three prior "strike" convictions.

The incident took place on October 14, 2021, when Mabon, along with an unidentified individual, forced their way into the victim's home through a garage door. The residents, who were asleep in their master bedroom, were assaulted; the male victim sustained a swollen eye from a strike to the face and, when he retaliated, was shot twice. After the altercation, Mabon sought treatment for gunshot wounds at a hospital—evidence that ultimately contributed to his conviction. Surveillance footage from the hospital captured him wearing a camouflage jacket, which, according to lab testing, bore the DNA of the victim. A beanie left at the crime scene also contained Mabon's DNA.

These DNA links between Mabon and the crime scene provided a significant breakthrough in the case. The jury deliberated upon these findings and pronounced a verdict on October 2. With the guilty ruling, Mabon now potentially faces up to 41 years, to life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November 21, when he will appear before Judge Shelleyanne Chang in Department 21 of the Sacramento County Superior Court.

Concerns over home invasions have remained consistent in local communities, and cases such as Mabon's highlight both the violent nature of these crimes and the justice system's response. The Sacramento Police Department continues to investigate the incident and seeks any information regarding the second suspect, whose identity remains unknown. The District Attorney's office has not released any further statements about the ongoing search for the at-large accomplice.
