Earlier this week in Liberty County, a mother and her three children were rescued from a pond. Domingo Quintana, the father, was arrested on an unrelated animal cruelty charge and booked into the Liberty County Jail with a $5,000 bond, according to Click2Houston.
After the pond incident, Child Protective Services took the three children into their care. Officials also reported that Quintana was arrested for animal cruelty after deputies found malnourished animals on his property. KHOU said multiple civil lawsuits have been filed against him for unpaid property taxes and unpaid bills to contractors.
Quintana contacted authorities on Monday, reporting that his wife had harmed their children and tried to drown them in a pond on their property. The mother and an 11-year-old girl were critically injured and airlifted to the hospital, while a 15-year-old and a 6-year-old were also hospitalized. All are now reported to be safe. Liberty County authorities are investigating, including testing medication bottles found near the pond. "Deputies said Quintana called 911 early Monday, claiming his wife had poisoned the children with NyQuil and alcohol before trying to drown them," and a dive team is searching the pond for more evidence, as reported by KHOU.
