Jessica Quintana, 39, of Liberty County, has been charged with felony attempted murder after allegedly trying to drown her three children on September 29. Authorities say she mixed NyQuil and alcohol to sedate the children before taking them to a pond near their Dayton home, as reported by Click2Houston.
Jessica Quintana was held on a $3 million bond after being released from the hospital, according to Houston Chronicle. Investigators found empty bottles at the scene linked to her actions. She faces two counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury and one count of assault causing bodily injury. Authorities found her children in or near a pond. Her husband, Domingo Quintana, called the authorities after discovering the children in danger.
Jessica Quintana allegedly made two plans to escape her domestic situation. "Plan A involved she and the children packing their bags and leaving the home," District Attorney Jennifer Bergman said. The next day, Plan B involved Quintana leading her children to the water after making them feel "fuzzy" from intoxication. Bergman said, "Thankfully, things did not go as planned and Plan B was not able to be carried out," as per Click2Houston. Domingo was arrested on an unrelated animal cruelty charge but was not charged in connection with the attempted murder-suicide. Liberty Police Lt. Ramiro Lozano, who helped secure Domingo's release from jail, was placed on administrative leave; Bergman said, "He was not employed by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at this time, and he was not associated with this investigation in any manner," as mentioned by Houston Chronicle. The children are now in temporary conservatorship.
