Each contestant is to submit chalk artworks that revolve around this year's fire prevention theme: "Charge into Fire Safety, Lithium-ion batteries in your home."
An announcement made on the department's Facebook page details the contest's simple rules: grab some chalk, scout a sidewalk, and unleash your creativity. Once the masterpiece is complete, a snapshot of the artwork should be sent to [email protected] for consideration. The contest opened its doors to submissions until the witching hour of October 31.
The stakes are high with three adept victors slated to pocket $100 gift cards from Food 4 Less and Rancho San Miguel Markets. Geared towards grades K-8th, the educational campaign merges fun with a critical lesson on the potential dangers of everyday battery usage. The most fiery of these sidewalk masterpieces will be hailed at the November 5 City Council meeting, where the winners' names will be disclosed amongst local leaders and community members.
