Early this morning, an operation by law enforcement closed multiple streets in Lodi as deputies served a search warrant at a residence on West Lodi Avenue. This response related to a burglary was reported by the Lodi Police Department, resulting in the shutdown of Lodi Avenue between Hutchin Street and Church Street, Hutchins Street between Chestnut Street and Lodi Avenue, and Lee Avenue from Chestnut Street to Lodi Avenue. Commuters were advised to find alternate routes during the operation which involved a SWAT team presence and saw the detention of four individuals by the Sacramento Sheriff's Office (SCSO), according to FOX40.

Investigations on the scene quickly began to unravel, leading detectives to suspect that the arrested individuals were part of an international crime ring. This discovery was made during a coordinated effort between the Lodi Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office after an alarm signaled a break-in at Lodi Pawn and Jewelry. The four individuals—identified as a woman and three men—were caught “actively breaking into the pawn shop,” as per a statement from KCRA. At least two of them are Colombian nationals, one owning a jewelry business back in Colombia.

The suspects are believed to be responsible for high-stakes heists, potentially linked to a September 13 robbery in Sacramento County where over $1 million in jewelry was stolen. Their sophisticated operation, as outlined by Sgt. Amar Gandhi of the sheriff’s office, assigned the considerable tasks including disabling alarms, drilling holes, keeping lookout, and managing the business operations. "This is the stuff they make movies about," Gandhi said, adding that the crew's meticulous planning and advanced techniques indicated that they did not just "woke up and decided to go rob a jewelry store," as noted by KCRA.

The sheriff's office is now probing to determine the full extent of the crimes these individuals might have committed. Detectives believe the ring could be operating statewide, based on surveillance showing the group casing other stores and traveling in an RV. No jewelry was stolen from the Lodi pawn shop thanks to the swift action by law enforcement after the break-in alarm was triggered. Additional details about the case or the identities of those apprehended have not yet been released.
