According to an official statement on the LBPD website, gunfire erupted on the 400 block of Almond Avenue shortly after midnight, which resulted in a male victim being critically injured. The LBPD reported that officers received the call at approximately 12:25 a.m., and emergency services swiftly transported the victim to a nearby hospital ,where he remains in critical but stable condition.
In a separate incident reported by the Long Beach Police Department, another shooting took place in the 100 block of La Verne Avenue around 1:39 a.m. Arriving on the grisly scene, officers found another male victim deceased. The suspect, fleeing the scene before officers' arrival, is at large. As the investigation continues, responding homicide detectives are expected to release further information later today.
Long Beach officials are calling for calm and vigilance as they address both the hit shooting and murder investigation head-on.
