
An 18-year-old Long Island resident, Jahsheem Jones from Mastic Beach, has been charged following an incident at William Paca Middle School in May. Jones is accused of selling cannabis gummies to a student, who then shared them with other students, resulting in a medical emergency on school grounds. Suffolk County Police reported that at least three students were hospitalized, and Jones was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Suffolk Police reported that several students fell ill on school grounds, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency medical teams. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with multiple police cars and ambulances arriving at the school. According to the New York Post, about a dozen students between the ages of 13 and 14 were affected.
Jahsheem Jones was taken into custody following a police investigation that traced the incident back to his home on Robinwood Drive. He was issued a desk appearance ticket, with his court date yet to be scheduled. The situation has caused concern within the local community, with parents expressing worries about student safety in schools.
Amid the situation, educational efforts are ongoing. A spokesperson for the William Floyd School District highlighted their continued commitment to student safety, stating, "We continue to educate our students throughout the school year, through topical lessons and special events, about the dangers of all drug use including cannabis and edible cannabis." Similarly, Katherine Hernandez shared that she and her son Lucas have discussed substance misuse following the incidents. She told ABC7NY, "He talked a lot about his health class here actually not to take any alcohol or drugs, all the bad effects of that."
