Los Angeles County has taken a step to bolster its small business community with the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and the Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE) reopening their Economic Opportunity Grant Program for Chambers of Commerce. The program, which was first unveiled in August of this year, was designed to aid Chambers of Commerce in servicing local businesses still reeling from pandemic aftershocks, wildfire recovery, and the effects of immigration enforcement. Now, these organizations have until October 31, 2025, to apply for grants that have been increased to a potential maximum of $7,000.

A crucial detail for applicants is that Chambers of Commerce that have already applied during the initial launch do not need to reapply for the possibility of receiving the increased funding, a move that simplifies the process amid these economically tumultuous times. Interested and eligible newcomers are, however, encouraged to apply through the online application portal. The deadline looms at the stroke of midnight, specifically 11:59 PM on October 31, as reported by official DEO communications.

"Our Chambers of Commerce have worked tirelessly to support small businesses through crisis after crisis," DEO Director Kelly LoBianco remarked in a statement released by the department. These grants come at a time of need for Los Angeles-based small businesses, and target non-profit Chambers with 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6), or 501(c)(19) status. Size does matter here, as budgets under $1 million could net up to $5,000, while those operating with $1 million to $5 million might see grants up to $7,000.

The funds are multifaceted in their use, designed to cover a range from operational expenses to technological boosts, all within the spectrum of COVID-19 recovery. However, to tap into this fiscal lifeline, Chambers must meet certain criteria: they should have been in operation since before December 30, 2021, have a commercial space as their base of operations, and show an ongoing commitment to serving small business communities impacted by the pandemic. Complete applications, with all the requisite documentation, are essential for consideration, and grant recipients can expect notifications of their awards by November's end. More information on guidelines and FAQs is available at the DEO website.

The LA County DEO, tasked with fostering an equitable economy where communities thrive and growth is both inclusive and sustainable, looks to the future. The Department leverages its resources, including America’s Job Centers of California and an assortment of programs and partnerships, to create jobs, aid small businesses, and revitalize local communities. To stay informed on DEO’s initiatives or to get application details, the public can follow their social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, or directly engage with them through their website.
