Wisconsin drivers should prepare for major freeway closures this weekend as the Department of Transportation continues its improvement work on Interstates 41, 43, and 894, along with the Hale Interchange. According to WISN, the closure started 11 p.m. on last night and will last until 5:30 a.m. on Monday next week.

During this time, I-41/894 southbound from Greenfield Avenue to the Hale Interchange will be closed, including the west-to-south and east-to-south system ramps in the Zoo Interchange. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that a southbound left lane closure from Lincoln Avenue to the Hale Interchange will also remain in place.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation stated that the project aims to improve safety and extend pavement life. Suggested detour routes include using Highway 100 and Layton Avenue from I-94, and the I-41 south exit to Greenfield Avenue in combination with Highway 100 and Layton Avenue for I-41 detours.

According to FOX6 Now, once final paving operations are completed this weekend, I-41/894 south from Lincoln Avenue to the Hale Interchange will reopen to four lanes. The overall project is expected to be completed by late 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to enhance Milwaukee County’s highway infrastructure.
