Yesterday morning, tragedy struck Wahiawa as a man estimated to be in his 40s lost his life in a motorcycle collision. The incident occurred on the Karsten Thot Bridge, approximately at 3 a.m., when the motorcyclist was speeding northbound on Kamehameha Highway. In an attempt to overtake another vehicle, he lost control, resulting in a fatal confrontation with a concrete curb, as reported by KHON2.
According to the KITV report, after moving into the southbound lane, the man's motorcycle veered back into the northbound lane, where it struck the curb, and he was ejected onto the roadway. The emergency response team quickly arrived at the scene, where he was pronounced dead, notably not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The authorities subsequently closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions, which lasted from 3:28 a.m. until the investigation scene was clear.
This event, unfortunately, marked the 66th traffic fatality on Oʻahu this year, showing a considerable increase compared to the 35 reported at the same time in 2024. Honolulu Police Department highlighted that speed was a factor in the collision, but it remains unclear if drugs or alcohol also played a role. The investigation, involving all these factors, is still ongoing as the deceased has yet to be publicly identified.
