An investigation is underway after a tragic incident yesterday evening where a man was fatally struck by a freight train on the North Side near the San Antonio airport. FOX San Antonio report that the first responders were called to the scene around 6:15 p.m., near the intersection of Wetmore Road and Broadway.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a middle-aged male who had sustained severe injuries. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the officials. According to the San Antonio Police Department, the man was walking on the train tracks and became trapped on a bridge over the tracks when the freight train approached. The police statement cited by KSAT mentioned that the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Tuesday on the 10600 block of Wetmore Road.
Detectives are now working alongside the rail company to understand the events leading up to the fatal collision. The area near the airport is a blend of commercial and industrial properties, often frequented by heavy machinery and transport vehicles, making it a space fraught with potential dangers for unintended pedestrians.
