Early Tuesday morning, a 55-year-old man experienced a violent robbery while aboard a CTA Red Line train traversing Chicago's South Side. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the 200 block of West Garfield Avenue. The man was confronted by a group of four suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun. The assailants struck the victim in the face and proceeded to seize his belongings.
Following the incident, the man was able to seek medical assistance and was transported to St. Bernard Hospital. Described as being "in good condition" by the Chicago police, he suffered only minor injuries despite the traumatic encounter. It was reported by CBS News Chicago that the suspects exited the train swiftly after the altercation and fled the scene unchecked, disappearing into early morning darkness.
In response to this criminal act, law enforcement moved quickly to secure the area and canvass for witnesses or potential leads. Their effort yielded some success, as one member of the group suspected of orchestrating the robbery was apprehended shortly after the event unfolded. While the individual remains in custody, Chicago police have indicated that charges are pending, as they continue to pursue the other three suspects involved in this crime.
